You might think that trying to cut down a tree several inches in diameter with just a pocket knife would be impossible.
Well you’d be right – if you didn’t know this tip.
Lonnie and his wife run a YouTube channel called Far North Bushcraft and Survival.
Recently, Lonnie made a video tutorial on how to cut down a tree using only a small, inexpensive (about $15) pocket knife.
Safety is very important when you do something like this. You’ll need to use another tree branch as a mallet to pound the knife in to the tree. This pounding action could dislodge a branch high up in the canopy and allow it to fall right on top of you.
They call these branches that fall during the felling of a tree ‘widowmakers‘.
Another name for them is ‘fool killer’. 😉
Lonnie makes clear that before you start cutting away, be sure to look up and identify any branches that could become dislodged.

Here’s a knife that’s similar to the Mora knife Lonnie used in the video.
